Honey Buns

A few months ago just before Christmas I made a bunch of Cinnamon Rolls for the Hubsters co workers. You can find that recipe here. What I didn’t realize until later that day was that I forgot a central ingredient! The Hubsters LT said how much he liked the honey buns?! I was like What? Honey Buns? What? So then thinking back I realized that I may not have put cinnamon in all the cinnamon rolls! Well I realized this was kind of a happy accident. I remember eating honey buns when we were kids as a special treat on Saturday mornings as we watched cartoons! But homemade honey buns, now we’re talkin’. This recipe is a little different than the one I used before. But I really like the dough on this recipe!

Here’s what you’ll need:

DOUGH

1 cup warm milk (110 degrees)

2 eggs, room temperature

1/3 cup margarine, melted

4 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup white sugar

1pkg yeast

FILLING

1 cup brown sugar, packed

A pinch ground Cinnamon

1/3 cup butter, softened

GLAZE

1 cup Powdered Sugar

1tsp Vanilla

1-2TBSP Milk

1TBSP Honey

Here’s how you make it:

Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk in a large bowl. Mix in the sugar, margarine, salt, and eggs. Add flour and mix well. Knead the dough into a large ball. Put in a bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes.

In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon and butter. Roll dough into a 16x21 inch rectangle. Sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon/butter mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake rolls until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

While rolls are baking, beat together powdered sugar, vanilla, honey and milk. Spread glaze on warm rolls.

ENJOY!
