So I’ve mentioned a few times that the Hubster is getting
ready to deploy! This will be his 4th Deployment and over the years
we’ve found ways to help us cope with his absence. The first time Man-child was
only 2! He made these great videos of him reading Man-Childs favorite books,
and singing his favorite songs. We used to watch those videos every night!
On his 2nd Deployment Man-Child was 6. A little
older and while we still watched the videos occasionally, he was more
interested in what Daddy was doing, where he was and what was going on. So we
made a “Daddy Clock” I just bought an inexpensive clock and some Army stickers.
Our first Daddy Clock was a lot more elaborate with a sheet
of Army Scrapbook paper behind it and we wrote Daddy’s Time on it. It’s evolved
over the years and now it’s just the clock and an Army Sticker. We set the
Daddy Clock to the time in Iraq/Afghanistan. It’s a great reminder of what time
it is where Daddy is! When he was deployed that 2nd time it was such
a great teaching tool as well, really helped Man-child learn to tell time. It
also helped us feel a little closer to him. When Man-child would ask “What time
is it where Daddy is?” and I would tell him or have him figure it out then we
would discuss what Daddy might be doing at that time? Is he waking up,
sleeping, or eating lunch? Sometimes together we would invent stories around what
he might be doing. I love the clock. It’s a little sad when we put it up
because it means he’s leaving again, but it’s also one way to keep us closer!
Do you have a Military Family Member? Do you have a special
way you keep connected while they are deployed? Share in the Comments!
ENJOY!
